In contrast to The Cookie Tin
(Sci-Fi tab), my intent with this tale was to write something that had an
English feel to it. I also wanted to have a stab at writing something
where people did not have regular names, but were referenced instead by
who they were. Hence we have Orphan, Butler, Young Master, and so on.
Dragons' Lair is a short tale in around 5,150 words, about Orphan, a girl who is sent to work below stairs at a grand mansion. She works there for many years as she grows from childhood. Then, one day, she is instructed to serve at the masters' table... Written circa 2002 (I think.) |
